Description
401 Lucy FLANNIGAN (1870–1934)
Landscape of Capri
Pastel, signed on a label on the reverse.
75.5 x 108 cm
Having settled in Capri in the late 19th century, the American artist Lucy Flannigan devoted most of her work to depicting the island’s landscapes, skilfully capturing their Mediterranean light and atmosphere with great sensitivity. Created in pastel, these two panoramas demonstrate her mastery of colour and texture, in an approach to Capri’s natural landscape that is both delicate and immersive. Having remained aloof from the art market throughout her life and refusing to part with her creations, Flannigan leaves behind a rare body of work, the majority of which was preserved by the Weber family following her death in 1934.
