‘Heracles with the Doe, with Bronze Feet’ was designed by LANDOWSKI in response to a commission from Count Edmond de FELS, who wished to commission a series of sculptures depicting the Twelve Labours of Hercules.
Although this project was never ultimately realised, the sculpture was nevertheless produced in 1922, at the instigation of Paul LÉON, to serve as the international skiing cup; LANDOWSKI reworked the model of *Heracles and the Doe* to which he added an engraved motif of skiers on the plinth.
The production version of the model does not include this detail.
