The painting we present here demonstrates Jules Dupré’s interest in depicting variations in weather and light, with the variety of brushstrokes capturing the reflections in the pond and the movement in the clouds. Associated with the landscape painters Théodore Rousseau and Constant Troyon, and having discovered the art of Constable during a trip to England, Dupré became an important member of the Barbizon group. In addition to the realism of his works, a touch of romanticism tinged with spirituality can be perceived in his landscapes.
