A native of Reims and a prolific painter, Armand Guéry is the painter of the Champagne countryside. He studied under the tutelage of Rigon and Pereire, who taught him the art of naturalist landscape painting. Loyal to his region, he painted the Champagne countryside, its rivers, flocks of sheep, haystacks and windmills, but also its vast expanses, where he delighted in depicting space, as in the work we are presenting. He was awarded medals at the Salon des Artistes Français in 1885, 1891 and 1894 in Paris, and received an honourable mention in 1900 at the Paris Universal Exhibition. The Reims Museum holds several paintings by this artist.
