Edouard John MENTA (1858–1915) The Umbrella Seller Oil on canvas 52 x 37 cm Signed lower right: Menta Born in Geneva, Menta began as a landscape painter before turning his hand to genre scenes and portraits. In the painting we present here, one can see his fondness for plein air painting and Impressionism. In 1874, he made his debut at an exhibition in Geneva, which led to him exhibiting regularly in France. From around 1880, the artist lived in Nice, where the Museum of Fine Arts holds many of his works.
