Silver tea service; comprising a teapot, a sugar bowl and a milk jug, all pieces decorated with rocaille, scrollwork, flowers and acanthus leaves. The handle of the teapot lid is topped with a falcon. All pieces are monogrammed MBS (?). London 1866, (925°/°°); Silversmith: Goldsmiths Alliance Ltd; Cornhill, London EC This company was formed by A B Savory & Sons and T C Savory & Co. Samuel Smily (S S) was the manager of Savory & Sons until 1880, having succeeded his father, William, on the latter’s death in 1865. Height of teapot: 21 cm Weight: 1610 g. Included is a large silver-plated copper tray with two handles, edged with scrolls and flowers. The centre is monogrammed MV and features a count’s crown. 19th-century French work L: 76 cm
