Description
A pair of ‘Return from Egypt’ style candlesticks, dating from the Consulate or First Empire period. In silver-plated bronze, the square-section shaft features a star on three of the four sides and is topped by an Egyptian head wearing a nemes, supporting a vase-shaped bowl with moulded decoration adorned with friezes of palmettes and stars, and resting on a circular base decorated with a frieze of stylised palmettes. Minor knocks and small repairs to one of the bases. H: 28.5 – Diam: 12.5 cm.
