Description
Attributed to Carlo AMALFI (1707 - 1787)
Presumed portrait of Domenico Sarri (1679 - 1744)
Oil on canvas (restorations)
110 x 85 cm
With frame
This intriguing painting may represent the post-mortem portrait of the Apulian composer Domenico Sarri (or Sarro). Very popular during his lifetime, he wrote numerous works for several Neapolitan theatres.
The hypothesis of this identification is suggested by the signature at the bottom of the vocal score placed on a stringed instrument, probably a study harpsichord.
