[16th-century book]. PAPON (Jean). Collection of notable judgements of the sovereign courts of France. Arranged by title, in twenty-four volumes. N.p., n.p., 1559. Large 8vo, XXIV–1001 pp., [34] folios (excluding the final blank folio), contemporary brown calfskin, spine with four raised bands and blank, gilt fleurons, covers decorated with a blind-stamped border, a central medallion and four gilded corner medallions, red edges (binding rubbed, tail cap exposed, corners worn, tail cap repaired, lower guard marked; discolouration, faint water stain on the very last leaves). Third edition of the major work by the jurist Jean Papon (c. 1507–1590). A few passages formerly underlined and rare annotations. Handwritten bookplate dated 1593 on the title page.
