Description
[Controversy. Protestantism. Dauphiné]. [MARCELLIN DE PONT-DE-BEAUVOISIN (the elder, O.M.C.)]. The deceit of the ministers & the falsity of the so-called religion, together with the recognised Catholic truth... Lyon: L. Muguet, 1618. In-8, [1] fol. (engraved title page), [6] fol., pp. 1–2, 7–682, [4 (of 5)] folios, half havana morocco with corner pieces, spine with 5 raised bands, author, title, fleurons, place and date gilded, double blind-stamped border around the panels, edges gilt [Thomas] (3 folios missing).
A rare first edition of this anti-Protestant work, composed in Grenoble by the Capuchin friar Marcellin de Pont-de-Beauvoisin, who died in 1624, and published under the pseudonym ‘Sieur de La Pasthée, a gentleman from the Dauphiné, advocate at the Parliament of Grenoble’. Engraved title page illustrated with 7 vignettes. Folios A2 and A3 are missing (i.e. pages 3 to 6 in the Preface), as is the final folio 4R2 following the end of the table of contents. An old signature in the margin of the title page.
See: L. Blasutto, *Étude d’un écrit antiprotestant : la Piperie des Ministres...* Master’s thesis, ENSSIB, 2009, which places the work in its Dauphiné context.
