VIRGIL. The Works of P. Virgilii Maronis, annotated and explained by Carolus Ruaeus… Paris, published by S. Benard, 1682. Large quarto, contemporary red morocco, spine with five raised bands decorated with a gilt scroll, author’s name in gilt, panels decorated with small ironwork, covers decorated in the Duseuil style, gilt scrolls on the cuts and chases, gilt edges (some scuffing at the edges of the raised bands, corners and gussets; sporadic browning and foxing, small losses at the corners of the title page and frontispiece.). Cossin; an engraved vignette on the title page, a banner bearing the Dauphin’s coat of arms at the head of the dedication, and three further banners (one at the head of each work). A fine copy, well bound and with generous margins (h = 257 mm). A small signature in the corner of the frontispiece. (Brunet V, 1290).
