Description
[Binding bearing a coat of arms]. HERMANT (Jean). History of the Military Orders of the Church and the Orders of Chivalry. Rouen: J. B. Besongne, 1725. Two in-8 volumes, contemporary fawn calfskin, spine with 5 raised bands, title and volume number labels in morocco, ornate maroquin panels in various shades, double gilt fillet on the covers, gilt coats of arms, gilt roulette on the edges, red edges (defects including worm damage at the edge of one cover and at the tail end of the clasps, page missing without mark on p.131, vol. 1).
The illustrations consist of numerous wood-engraved figures within the text, and a copper-engraved frontispiece after Humblot.
