Two quarto volumes, [2] folios, LXI pp. (preface, Life of Ovid), [13] folios (table of contents, approval), 403 pp. + [2] folios, 495 pp., [4] leaves (table of contents), French, illustrated, period speckled havana calfskin, spine with 5 raised bands, title and volume number labels in red morocco and brown sheepskin, ornate panels, triple fillet and agular fleurons on the covers, red edges (defects including 2 exposed caps, scuffing, worn corners; discolouration, a few leaves misaligned and worn at the margins, watermarks at the margins of the last title leaves of vol. 2. In vol. 1, the vignette on p. 369 is reproduced on p. 373). An illustrated edition with 2 frontispieces and 133 half-page vignettes after Joannes Matheus, Briot, Firens and Faulte, all engraved on copper. Provenance: the initials ‘C. de G. M.’ stamped at the bottom of the spines.
