FRACASTORO (Girolamo). *Syphilis, or the Venereal Disease*, a Latin poem by Jerome Fracastor, with a French translation and notes. Paris: J.-F. Quillau, 1753. In-8, [1] f., 200 p., [2] leaves, contemporary havana sheepskin, spine with 5 raised bands, red title label, decorated panels, name gilt on the upper cover, red edges (defects including exposed joints, worn caps and corners; a repaired tear affecting a few letters on p. 183, browning). Latin text in verse with a French prose translation opposite. Provenance: Pierre Etienne Antoine de Grouchet de Soquence (1724–1772), officer in the Chartres Regiment (ex-libris label and gilt supra-libris); Pierre Duputel (1775–1851), a collector from Normandy (ex-libris label on the title page).
