Description
AESOP. Aesop’s Fables illustrated with explanations and the main events of his life. A collection of 145 witty engravings and ingenious fables. Intended for the education of children of both sexes. Paris: Tardieu Denesle, [c. 1810]. Two parts in one volume, in-4, continuous pagination, [1] f. (title page), pp. 2–16 (including the title page), ff. 17–145, recent imitation tan sheepskin (marginal defects, foxing, discolouration; plates 87 and 129 are from another print run and have narrower margins).
A fully engraved work, the illustrations comprising a frontispiece, a full-page engraving (p. 76: Divine Honours Bestowed upon Aesop), and 126 half-page figures, each illustrating a fable.
