An Epistle to the Sovereigns of Europe assembled at the Congress of Vienna, which was awarded first honourable mention by the Académie française at its public sitting on 25 August 1823. Paris: printed by Firmin Didot, 1823. 8vo, [1] leaf, 26 pp., paperback, modern cover, red adhesive spine (foxing, faint angular discolouration). First edition of this poem, followed by historical notes by A. Bignan (1795–1861), a man of letters who distinguished himself in particular through a complete translation of the *Iliad* and the *Odyssey* into French verse; he published numerous poems and academic works, as well as a novel (L’Échafaud, 1822) in which he takes a stand against the death penalty
