HUGO (Victor). Songs of the Streets and the Woods. Paris: Librairie internationale; A. Lacroix, Verboeckhoven & Cie in Brussels, Leipzig and Livorno, 1866. In-8, 443 pp. (the first 16 paginated in Roman numerals), contemporary havana half-shagreen, spine with 5 raised bands, author’s name and title gilt, decorated panels (minor scuffing, very few foxing spots). Genuine first edition. According to Vicaire, the edition dated Brussels, 1865, was published later; it was on the proofs of this Paris edition—published in late 1865 and dated 1866 for commercial reasons—that Victor Hugo made his final corrections.
