Voluntary lot
Description
[Botany]. BAILLON (Henri). Iconography of the French Flora. Paris, Doin, [1885–1895]. 500 colour plates, 18 x 12 cm in size, with titles on the front and captions on the reverse, mounted loose in 10 contemporary quarto-sized percaline volumes, various colours (minor defects to the bindings).
A rare complete collection of this important flora by Henri Baillon (1827–1895), professor of medical natural history at the Paris Faculty of Medicine.
The general table is missing. There is a discrepancy in the numbering of the plates compared with the vignettes (volume 6, p. 255, and vol. 9, p. 423), so that the last plate is numbered 498 and contains vignette 496, and the last four vignettes (497 to 500) are loose.
The final volume deals with fungi.
A few neat, old annotations by a collector.
