An illustrated edition featuring 45 colour copperplate engravings by Richard Ranft. Title page illustrated by A. Giraldon; text set within a floral frame, with decorative elements.
Printed in a run of 262 numbered copies: one of the 220 (no. 249) on handmade vellum paper, featuring the final version of the illustrations.
Enriched with two autograph letters signed by Richard Ranft, addressed to ‘my dear Masson’, two pages in-12, one dated 29 November 1901, the other from ‘Gournay-sur-Marne, Wednesday morning’. He discusses his work and promises, in particular, to bring a painting ‘composed according to Piazza’s instructions’.
