Description
DINET; RACIM. SLIMAN BEN IBRAHIM BAÂMER. The Life of Muhammad, Prophet of Allah. Paris, Piazza, 1918. In-4, VIII pp., [1] fol., 177 pp., in French, with plates, paperback (unbound, spine missing). First edition of this work, produced at the request of the Ministry of Defence, in tribute to the Muslims who died for France during the First World War. It is illustrated with 35 colour plates by the Orientalist painter Etienne Dinet (1861–1929); 12 plates of illuminations, including one as a frontispiece, and colour decorations within the text, by the young Algerian miniaturist Mohammed Racim (1896–1975); and a full-page black-and-white map of the Hejaz. All the plates are accompanied by captions. Printed in a run of 925 copies: one of the 800 on vellum, unnumbered, inscribed to Charles Masson.
