MAURIAC (François). *Le fleuve de feu*. Paris, Grasset, 1923. In-12, later red half-shagreen, spine with 5 raised bands, author’s name, title and date in gold, gilt head, untrimmed, cover and spine preserved (light discolouration on pp. 144–45).
Copy numbered 45 of the galley proofs, containing the complete text of the first edition prior to the final printing.
Presented to the British interior designer Sibyl Colefax (1874–1950) on 22 May 1823, bearing the publisher’s signature and an autograph dedication signed ‘in tribute to my deepest respect’ by François Mauriac and bearing the same date.
Provenance: Jacques-Émile Blanche (1861–1942), painter and writer, by descent.
