Description
ARNAS; LUENGO et al. PRESCOTT (William). *Historia de la conquista de Méjico*. Madrid, Ed. de Aguilera, 1991. Large folio, loose-leaf volume in the publisher’s burgundy suede slipcase, spine with four raised bands, two black shagreen labels bearing the names of the author and illustrators, title gilded lengthwise, embossed coat of arms on the upper cover, canvas linings with Mesoamerican motifs + 1 in-plano folio, brick-red canvas, large black sheepskin title label on the upper cover (ribs very slightly rubbed).
The volume comprises extracts from William Prescott’s historical text, based on the Madrid edition, 1847–1850, and is illustrated with 10 original colour etchings by five artists: César Luengo, Clara Gangutia, Roberto González Fernández, Jesús Ibáñez and Vicente Arnas.
Limited edition of 115 copies: one of the 94 released for sale, and amongst these, one of the 9 first-impression copies (no. 2) containing two additional proofs of one of the engravings, and an original matrix comprising two metal-engraved plates.
It is accompanied by one of the sets on Arches vellum, of which only 25 copies were printed.
