Description
(AUBE-HAUTE MARNE-10-52) Louis DENIS (1725–1794) – ‘The Road from Troyes to Langres...’ - 18th century. Engraving enhanced with watercolour on laid paper by Louis Denis in 1778, published in his famous collection of maps entitled *Le Conducteur français*. Engraved by Chalmandrier. The map begins at the historic capital of the Counts of Champagne and initially follows the ancient Aube valley, retracing very old routes dating back to the Gallo-Roman period, before ending with a steep ascent towards the fortified hilltop town of Langres, a highly strategic crossroads on the route to Burgundy and Franche-Comté. (200 x 570 mm) – Condition A–. Map has a cut edge. Printing creases.
