Hare mask. Bambara. Mali
Hardwood with a very old, light-coloured patina from use. The left cheek has been repaired
using metal staples (indigenous repair). Typical of the
Bambara style, this mask features a rounded forehead, carved with
geometric motifs, a long, slender nose and rectangular eyes; the animal’s
mouth is slightly open. The skull is adorned with two ears. The rim
is pierced for mounting.
