Description
Flemish School, first half of the 17th century, circle of David II Teniers the Younger (1610–1690) Allegory of Vanity Oil on parquet-panelled wood. H_33 cm W_55 cm This highly interesting painting bears a resemblance to the composition by Teniers offered for sale at Christie’s on 25 January 2023, lot no. 15, from the Safra collection. There are striking similarities, particularly in the entablature, but also in the painting situated at the bottom right of the composition, which is reminiscent of the tavern scenes painted by David II Teniers after 1635. This painting was formerly attributed to Jan van Kessel (1620–1661) We would like to thank Fred Meijer for this information. Expert: Cabinet Artéon - Expert: Quentin BONNEFOY
