Description
DOOR KNOCKER Made of wrought iron, the movable hammer is shaped like a figure carrying a coat-of-arms shield (now faded); the figure wears a pleated robe and stands on a stepped lamp base. Base plate decorated with perforated wheat-ear motifs and ornate uprights. France, late 15th century, early 16th century. Total height: 21 cm – Width: 7.5 cm (Oxidation, minor imperfections) Provenance: – Reportedly from the Hôtel de Carsalade in Aurignac (Haute-Garonne). – Passed to the de Gaulejac family at the Hôtel de Carsalade, Aurignac (Haute-Garonne). – Passed down through the family to the present day.
