Description
~ SMALL CEREMONIAL TANKARD
carved from ivory and gilded silver (vermeil). The body of the tankard is carved in bas-relief with three men indulging in carnal pleasures: one caressing the breast of a naked woman, another being massaged by a naked woman, and the last being served a drink by a naked woman. The base, handle and lid are made of partially gilded silver, featuring repoussé fruit motifs and cabochons of turquoise and semi-precious stones. The fretel depicts a small hunter smoking a pipe whilst seated on a barrel with his rifle.
