Guillaume APOLLINAIRE. Calligrammes. Poems of Peace and War (1913–1916). With a portrait of the author by Pablo Picasso. Paris, Mercure de France, 1918. In-8, red half-maroquin, wood-grain paper covering the boards edged with red maroquin and a gilt fillet, title on a strip of maroquin of the same colour inserted on the front board, untrimmed, gilt top, cover and spine preserved, slipcase (P.L. Martin, 1956). First edition. “Some of the finest war poems, in any language, are brought together in this collection, alongside experimental works such as *Les Fenêtres* (close to Cubism) and *La Jolie Rousse*, which were far ahead of their time” (Cyril Connolly, One Hundred Key Books of Modern Literature, no. 32). A copy printed on brown-tinted paper, as is customary, but in fine condition.
