In-8, green half-maroquin with bands, smooth spine, covers decorated with a geometric design in two-tone glossy black and matt green paper, untrimmed, gilt head, cover and spine preserved, slipcase, case (P.-L. Martin, 1961). An edition of 100 copies printed on fine Arches vellum paper (no. XLII): it is illustrated with an engraved portrait of the author by Hans Bellmer. “The essays collected in this volume were written in 1935 and 1936 (I was twenty-two at the time) and published a year later in Algeria in a very small print run. This edition has long been out of print” (preface, p. 15). The decorative binding by Pierre-Lucien Martin was commissioned for Professor Jacques Millot. (Professor Millot’s library, 1991, no. 189: regarding P.-L. Martin’s binding, “featuring a geometric mosaic design in glossy paper. This interplay of green tones echoes the green-ink typography on the first pages of this edition.”)
