Description
Jean DUBUFFET. *Oukiva trene sebot* by Jandu Bufe. [1958]. Typewritten with handwritten corrections, 1½ pages, in-4.
Original typescript with five handwritten corrections and six caesura marks in blue ink, from a text written in phonetic jargon, published by the Collège de Pataphysique in 1958.
It was addressed to Noël Arnaud in preparation for a lecture.
‘KIXE KIRMU BOUJPA IATI DEVIPER ESFER PIKE KESKESE KISEKI SAMEN KESTI FELA KIXE SEPATE ZAFER LESSA FOTILLE SEFER SION NI LANSE DEKAIOU DANLNE’…
[Whoever it is who’s stirring, don’t move; are there vipers and will you get bitten? What is it? Who’s coming along? What’s going on here? Whoever that one is, it’s none of your business…].
In the accompanying letter, Dubuffet regrets not having a copy of Pierre Bettencourt’s collection of three of his short texts written in slang, entitled *Plu kifekler mouninkon nivoua*. He draws Noël Arnaud’s attention to the works of André Martel, which are based on very different mechanisms (Signed typewritten letter, 24 January 1958, 1 page, in-4).
Enclosed: Jean DUBUFFET. *Oukiva trene sebot par Jandu Bufe*. LXXV. Paris, Collège de Pataphysique, [1958]. Stapled in-16 booklet. First edition illustrated with 4 portraits printed in magenta on coated paper by Pierre Bettencourt and 5 full-page compositions by Jean Dubuffet. Limited edition of 555 copies: one of the 421 on ‘Apothicaires’ yellow paper (no. 437).
