Description
André FRÉNAUD. *Haeres*. Paris, Édition de l’Ermitage, 1977.
Small square folio, loose-leaf, cover with flaps, in the publisher’s blue paper slipcase.
First edition.
Limited edition of 67 copies on large Arches vellum, signed by the poet and the painter (no. 36).
A book of great refinement, illustrated with 10 original drypoint and aquatint engravings by Geneviève Asse.
In anticipation of the exhibition dedicated to the painter and engraver at the Musée Soulages in 2025, the director, Benoît Decron, remarked: “Geneviève Asse (1923–2021) is a painter of silence: no bass drum rolls, but a world composed of blues and incident light, rendered in rays or flat areas of colour. ‘Asse Blue’ is elusive, difficult to categorise in a colour chart.” She began practising printmaking alongside her painting from 1954 onwards. The spine and edges of the publisher’s slipcase are sun-faded.
