Contributor’s copy on Arches vellum, signed by the poet and the painter, for Louis Barnier. Double autograph inscription on the half-title page: ‘For Mr Barnier, with my gratitude and best wishes, Léna Leclercq [Three original drawings] Max Ernst.’ As director of the Imprimerie Union, Louis Barnier was responsible for the production of a considerable number of books by 20th-century painters – including this *Rose est nue*.
