Description
Henri MICHAUX. Ecuador. Travel Diary. Paris, Éditions de la Nouvelle Revue Française, 1929. Small in-4, lime-green box leather decorated with a geometric pattern formed by a continuous mosaic of black box leather pieces on the covers and spine, lime-green box leather endpapers, black suede half-endpapers, untrimmed, cover and spine preserved, slipcase (Jean-Luc Honegger). First edition: one of the first 109 copies reprinted in a tellière quarto format on Lafuma Navarre laid paper (no. XCVIII). “Ecuador, a travel journal, is the only journal that Michaux seems to have actually kept. […] He sent it in instalments to Paulhan […]. There is everything in Ecuador, literally and in every sense. It is a book of instability, of malleability. […] *Ecuador* is a laboratory: the book in which Michaux found himself, the first through which he would be willing to remain represented” (Michaux, *Complete Works I*, Pléiade, pp. 1070–1071.—Imbert, no. 32).
