Description
Henri MICHAUX. Between Centre and Absence. With seven drawings and a frontispiece by the author. Paris, H. Matarasso, 1936. In-12, pine-green box, plain spine, decorative cut-out in the upper corner of the front cover and the lower corner of the back cover, held in place by two strips of black box material studded at the ends, pine-green box linings, water-green suede endpapers, edges gilt on marbled paper, cover and spine preserved, slipcase
(Renaud Vernier 2001).
First edition: illustrated with a frontispiece and seven drawings by Henri Michaux within the text. This is thus the poet’s first collection illustrated by himself. (Imbert, no. 71.) Limited edition of 320 copies.
One of the five first copies on Chinese paper, signed by the author, containing a signed autograph page (no. 3).
The signed autograph manuscript (1 page, in-12) is the second paragraph of *Magie*: “As soon as I saw her, I desired her” etc.
A visiting card from the publisher to Georges Blaizot, dated 23 February 1945 and offering him the book, has been mounted at the front.
The binding by Renaud Vernier is particularly fine.
