Description
Henri MICHAUX. *Tranches de savoir*. Followed by *Le Secret de la situation politique*. Paris, Librairie les Pas Perdus, 1950. In-12, black slipcase, long-grain morocco decoration on the smooth spine and covers, overlaid with an embossed design featuring green Plexiglas inlays at the centre, green suede endpapers, gilt edges on endpapers, cover and spine preserved, slipcase (Pierre-Lucien Martin). First edition, published under the supervision of Henri Parisot, in the ‘L’Âge d’or’ collection. The cover is illustrated with a composition by Max Ernst. (Imbert, no. 160.) One of 50 copies of the first edition on Marais Crèvecoeur (no. 32), initialled by the author, featuring an original etching by Max Ernst, signed and inscribed by the artist. Jean Paulhan, to whom Michaux had sent a copy of this collection of proverbs, wrote to him: “Thank you. I was expecting your proverbs. They are so rich, they ring with wisdom; one can reflect on them almost endlessly. […] What a trap! It’s impossible to escape. With every passing minute we are caught a little more firmly.
