Description
Henri MICHAUX. Vents et Poussières, 1950–1962. Paris, Éditions Galerie Karl Flinker, 1962. Large 8vo, black slipcase, covers decorated with a mosaic design in intaglio and relief featuring snakeskin and inlaid stones, black slipcase linings adorned with a mosaic of three-tone leather pieces, chamois suede endpapers, edges gilt on endpapers, slipcase (Monique Mathieu 1993). First edition, printed in a run of 830 copies. One of the 80 head copies on Rives hand-made vellum, featuring an original signed engraving and a series of 9 drawings. An important collection marked by the experience of hallucinogens: “a book of prose interspersed with a poem, punctuated by drawings whose more or less swirling hatching stems from the drug-induced visions, though executed with a distinct style” (Michaux, Œuvres complètes III, Pléiade, p. 1512). A superb decorative binding by Monique Mathieu, the only one she designed for this book. Slipped into the copy is an autograph card from Monique Mathieu, no doubt addressed to Robert Moureau, concerning payment for this binding and mentioning another forthcoming binding for *Les Murs*. The parchment-like sheets covering the engraving and the following pages have been preserved. From the Robert Moureau library, with bookplate (Bibliothèque littéraire Robert Moureau & Micheline de Bellefroid, II, 2004, no. 475).
