Henri Michaux held the Russian poet Vadim Kozovoï (1937–1999) in high esteem; Kozovoï was a translator of Blanchot, Rimbaud, Lautréamont, Gracq, Char and Mallarmé, and a connoisseur of French literature. He had been interned for several years in Soviet camps. He translated Michaux on two occasions and received considerable support from him when he settled in Paris around 1981.
