Description
Jean PAULHAN. *Le Guerrier appliqué*. New edition. Paris, Édouard Sansot, 1919. In-12, paperback.
Second printing (?) of the first edition published in 1917 at the author’s own expense.
A fine autographed copy, signed to Henri Michaux on the half-title page:
To H.M. / so that he / may rewrite it / his friend / JP
A leading figure behind the scenes at the *Nouvelle Revue Française*, of which he was secretary from 1920 and then editor-in-chief following the death of Jacques Rivière in 1925, Jean Paulhan (1884–1968) welcomed Henri Michaux to Paris. Fifteen years his senior, by the late 1920s he had become “Michaux’s privileged correspondent (two hundred letters), both his first reader and confidant” (Jean-Pierre Martin).
Michaux said of him: “He was my best reader for a long time.”
This copy of *Le Guerrier appliqué* was no doubt sent several years after its publication.
Spine worn.
