Description
Jean PAULHAN. Rimbaud d’un seul trait. Paris, Le Cercle de poésie, undated [1965]. Square folio, softboard binding, brown cloth slipcase (S Evrard).
First edition: limited print run of 130 copies.
One of the 30 special copies on cream Arches laid paper, not for sale (no. 28).
Famous lecture delivered before the Cercle de Poésie. “There have been better poets than Rimbaud in the history of literature: Victor Hugo is more expansive and generous, Goethe has greater serenity and harmony, Baudelaire and Coleridge move us more deeply. […] Yet no poet has preoccupied people as much as Rimbaud. He is unique. We can never shake him off. He sticks with us.”
Enclosed are the autograph working manuscript and the heavily corrected and signed typescript.
Fine working documents: the autograph manuscript comprises 7 folio-sized sheets on squared paper and the typescript 4 sheets.
The whole lot is housed in an ingenious box by S. Evrard, a French bookbinder of Hungarian origin and one of the pillars of the Air Neuf group.
