Description
HERMES Paris by Puiforcat. Magnificent ‘Sparte’ tray: in silver-plated metal; rectangular design with rounded edges in the Art Deco style. Handles in natural leather with white saddle-stitching. Signed ‘Hermès Paris’ and ‘Hermès Paris’, ‘Made in France’ beneath the handles, and bearing the Puiforcat hallmark. 32.5 x 39 cm. Very good condition, a few scratches. Hermès dust bag and box. The Sparte line is a relatively understated collection in Hermès’ history, but it has become highly prized by collectors. It draws its inspiration from Ancient Greece, and more specifically from the image we have of Sparta: understated, powerful forms, without superfluous decoration. The pieces are characterised by their geometric lines and the contrast between the polished silver-coloured metal and the natural saddle leather. The collection was launched in the 1980s. The best-known pieces in the range are: champagne buckets; large serving trays; ice buckets and a selection of bar accessories.
