HERMES Paris. A beautiful ‘Sparte’ champagne bucket: in silver-coloured metal, Art Deco style, with a natural leather handle and white saddle-stitching. Signed ‘Hermès Paris’ and ‘Hermès Paris made in France’ beneath the leather handle. “S” for the Sales. Height: 21 cm; Diameter: 25 cm. The Sparte line is a rather understated collection in Hermès’ history, but it has become highly prized by collectors. It draws its inspiration from Ancient Greece, and more specifically from the image we have of Sparta: sober, powerful forms, without superfluous decoration. The pieces are distinguished by their geometric lines and the contrast between the polished silver-coloured metal and the natural saddle leather. The collection was launched in the 1980s. The best-known pieces in the range are: champagne buckets; large serving trays; ice buckets and a selection of bar accessories.
