HERMES Paris. “Egée” collection: Set of 24 white porcelain plates, partially glazed and decorated with stylised Greek friezes in bas-relief, comprising 8 large plates (Diam. 27.5 cm), 8 dessert plates (Diam. 22.5 cm) and 8 small bread plates (Diam. 16.5 cm). Hermès mark on the base. Designed in the 1990s. Unlike the brand’s typically painted or highly colourful designs, the “Egée” collection plays on relief and minimalist simplicity. The porcelain is a pure, immaculate white. The design focuses on the marli (the rims) of the plates and dishes, adorned with a geometric motif sculpted in slight relief, inspired by ancient Greek friezes. The story behind this design lies in the play of light: the Limoges porcelain remains completely white, and it is the shadows cast by the sculpted relief that reveal the motif, as well as the contrast with the glossy glazed or matt bisque sections.
