CHANEL: ‘Première’ travel clock: vintage, in gold-coloured metal, black dial 65 x 55 mm, Esa 955144 quartz movement, held in place by a cord finished with a pom-pom. The hinged back cover allows it to be placed on a table. Swiss-made. Scratches, marks, wear and tear, tarnish, chip in the glass; the circuit is faulty and needs replacing. No case or papers. Not working. A bit of history: The case of the ‘Première’ watch, just like that of the travel clock derived from it, pays homage to both the Place Vendôme and the cap of N° 5. -Place Vendôme: Gabrielle Chanel lived for many years in her suite at the Ritz Hotel, overlooking Place Vendôme in Paris. The octagonal shape of the square (viewed from above) became a visual signature for her. -The cap of the N°5 perfume bottle: It is for this reason that the octagonal shape of the Place Vendôme was originally chosen to create the emerald-coloured cap of the legendary N°5 bottle.
