Description
HERMES Paris. Splendid ‘Festival des Amazones’ square scarf: in printed silk twill, labelled, in shades of green, blue and yellow, with a wide coral border, signed H. d’Origny. Approx. 88 x 88 cm. Very good condition. The first edition of this square, created by Henri d’Origny in 1992, was simply titled “Festival”. In 2013, Hermès decided to reissue this successful design. To mark the occasion, the brand chose to specify its name directly within the design by inscribing ‘Festival des Amazones’. The second edition in 2013 was therefore slightly modified in terms of the title, which became: ‘Festival des Amazones’. It is customary to attribute to Catherine de’ Medici (1519–1589) a new type of saddle that allowed women to ride more comfortably whilst wearing a skirt, with both legs on the same side of the horse: the Amazon saddle. Female riders vied with one another in the elegance of their equipment and attire. Some saddles were covered with an embroidered saddlecloth.
