China, French Concession of Shanghai – Gold medal of the French Concession, obverse bearing the coat of arms of the concession surmounted by a Chinese wall crown, encircled by the inscription on a scroll “FRENCH CONCESSION OF SHANGHAI”, repeated in Chinese; on the reverse, a circular cartouche encircled by the inscription ‘MÉRITE CIVIQUE’ on a laurel wreath, the centre engraved with the award ‘J.V.M. BREDIAN 1940’, a bail formed of a bamboo stem decorated with oak and laurel leaves, ribbon, mounted on a gold key-ring chain, hallmarked with an eagle’s head.
