Description
MASSON & LIEUTAUD 18th century 18K gold ‘onion-shaped’ pocket watch with repeater. White enamel dial with Roman numeral hour markers and painted minute markers, and Louis XV-style gold hands. Domed mineral glass. Hand-wound mechanical movement with cock, wound using a key (supplied), featuring a chain escapement signed ‘Masson & Lieutaud’ in Aix, numbered 701. 18K gold case. Diameter: 44 mm. Thickness: 22 mm Gross weight: 85.29 g Probably attributed to Denis Masson, a renowned 18th-century Parisian clockmaker whose speciality was clocks adorned with porcelain and chiselled bronze. His collaborators included Jean-Baptiste Vallée (caster), Foullet and Lieutaud (cabinetmakers), and the latter’s name appears alongside Masson’s in the signature on the dial. Condition report: The watch is not in working order. There are chips and cracks on the dial.
