ROLEX Cosmograph Daytona ‘Sigma Dial’ Ref. 6239 No. 1475789 Circa 1968 Steel wrist chronograph Case: round, steel bezel graduated ‘300 Units per Hour’, screw-down caseback, signed Dial: silvered, applied ‘baton’ hour markers, luminescent hands and hour markers, 3 sub-dials, railway-track minute track with 1/5-second graduations, signed Movement: mechanical, Valjoux calibre 722, signed Strap: Oyster, ref. 7205 Clasp: folding clasp, code 3.67, signed Diameter: 37 mm Includes: a period warranty dated 30 November 1968 bearing the stamp of the retailer La Gerbe d’Or in Toulouse, presentation box and outer box, period instructions, a Rolex card holder, a digital passport issued by Watch Certificate, and a set of spare parts.   Provenance: Preserved within the original owner’s family since its purchase in 1968. A stainless steel manual-winding chronograph wristwatch, Oyster bracelet with Rolex deployant folding clasp. With its original guarantee dated 30 November 1968 and stamped by the French former retailer La Gerbe d’Or, presentation box and outer packaging from the period, instruction manual, Rolex card holder, a digital passport issued by The Watch Certificate; and a set of spare parts. From the original owner, thence by descent to the present owner. Purchased in 1968 from La Gerbe d’Or, a historic Rolex retailer in the south of France, active from the 1950s to the late 1990s, this chronograph boasts a particularly attractive provenance for any collector, having had only one owner. Accompanied by a certificate issued by The Watch Certificate, this ‘first-hand’ Daytona was appraised in December 2024 by Carmelo Armeli, a recognised figure in the Rolex world, who served the manufacturer with his expertise for over thirty years. His analysis confirmed that this watch is in perfect condition. Introduced in 1963 and produced until 1969, the Daytona ref. 6239 was available with two types of tachymeter bezels, graduated from 50 to 200 and from 60 to 300 units per hour respectively. Our example is fitted with a ‘300 Units per Hour’ tachymeter, a configuration consistent with the final models produced in this reference.   Acquired in 1968 from La Gerbe d’Or, a historic Rolex retailer in the south of France that operated from the 1950s until the late 1990s, this chronograph boasts a particularly appealing provenance, having remained in the hands of the same owner since new. Accompanied by a passport issued by The Watch Certificate, this single-owner Daytona was examined in December 2024 by Carmelo Armeli, a respected figure in the Rolex world who dedicated more than thirty years of his career to the manufacture. His assessment confirmed the watch’s complete originality and conformity to factory specifications. Introduced in 1963 and produced until 1969, the Daytona reference 6239 was fitted with two different tachymeter bezel configurations, graduated respectively from 50 to 200 and from 60 to 300 units per hour. This particular example features a “300 Units per Hour” tachymeter bezel, a configuration consistent with the later production models of this reference. CONDITION REPORT: Movement operational at the time of writing the catalogue. In good condition. Case well preserved, showing a few scratches and slight signs of wear. ‘T Swiss T’ dial in good condition, with a beautiful, even patina; a few small imperfections are visible on the surface, likely due to the ageing of the varnish. Slight oxidation visible on the hands. Period bracelet with its 11 original links and period clasp.
