CARTIER Tank Obus No. 35069 / 78917 Circa 1937 18k yellow gold (750) wristwatch Case: square with stylised lugs known as ‘Obus’, winding crown set with a cabochon, numbered 9297 on the inside and 78917 on the back, signed European Watch Dial: white, Roman numerals, railway-track minute track, blued steel ‘Pomme’ hands, signed Cartier Movement: mechanical, signed European Watch Co Swiss Buckle: gold-plated metal pin buckle Dimensions: 23 x 29 mm Gross weight: 27.60 g. Provenance: Collection of a Parisian collector. An 18k yellow gold manual-winding wristwatch with bullet-shaped lugs and a gilt metal buckle. From a private collector. In the reference work *Le Temps de Cartier*, written by Jader Barracca, Giampiero Negretti and Franco Nencini, several timepieces featuring stylised lugs known as ‘Obus’ are reproduced on pages 122 and 123. Dating from 1923–1924, they reflect a design deeply inspired by imagery from the First World War. According to information provided by its owner, this watch was acquired in 1937 from the Parisian jeweller. In the reference work *Le Temps de Cartier*, authored by Jader Barracca, Giampiero Negretti and Franco Nencini, several watches featuring stylised “Obus” lugs are illustrated on pages 122 and 123. Dated to 1923–1924, these pieces reflect a design strongly influenced by imagery from the First World War. According to information provided by its owner, this watch was purchased from the Parisian jeweller Cartier in 1937. CONDITION REPORT: Movement operational at the time of catalogue compilation. Eagle’s head hallmark. Several watchmaker’s markings visible on the case back. Dial showing significant signs of ageing: faded markings and visible loss of material.
