An 18k yellow gold automatic wristwatch, green bloodstone jasper dial, President bracelet with Rolex folding deployant clasp. From the original owner.
Launched in 1988 to replace the reference 18038, the Rolex Day-Date ref. 18238 was the first Day-Date to feature a dual quickset system, allowing for rapid adjustment of both the day and the date. Remaining in production until 2000, our example comes with a period warranty showing a different serial number, but annotated with the handwritten note ‘E170208 Jaspe’. This document, provided by the retailer to the watch’s owner at the time of purchase in 1991, certifies that the bloodstone dial is entirely original.
Featuring red iron oxide inclusions, bloodstone dials are currently particularly prized by collectors and connoisseurs. Emblematic of the 1970–1990 period, they were primarily fitted to the Day-Date, Oysterquartz Day-Date and certain Datejust models.
