In chiselled yellow gold, set with guilloché green enamel; the borders are adorned with ribbons of pink enamel. The lid is enhanced by a miniature portrait of Laurens de Geer or Jean-François Paul de Gondi?
The base features a central cartouche depicting a child in a monochrome pink enamel.

Note:
Pierre Signac was ‘one of the finest enamellers of the 17th century’ (Henry Clouzot, *La Revue de l’art ancien et moderne*, July 1911, p. 187). A pupil of Jean Toutin, he was noticed at a very early age by his peers, and subsequently by Magnus de la Gardie, who offered him a position in the service of Queen Christina of Sweden.
From 1646 onwards, Signac produced numerous enamelled portraits of the sovereign, her family and prominent members of her court.
This box, with its rich polychrome enamels and the quality of its portrait, fits perfectly within the artist’s output from the 1650s and 1660s.
